Regain Youthful Hands
C. Gonzalez, Jr., M.D., Guylaine Lanctôt's Medical Director, answers your questions about exciting new developments in the treatment of bulging veins on the back of your hands.
Q. Why do I have bulging veins on the back of my hands?
A. The bulging is caused when veins become less elastic with age or inherited tendencies. The lack of elasticity allows more blood to remain in the veins, thus pressing them close to the skin in plain view. Although they are not necessarily a health concern in most cases, big veins tend to age one's hands.
Q. I wish my hands looked healthier and younger. Can anything be done about their appearance?
A. Yes, at Guylaine Lanctôt we are obtaining beautiful results with a medication called Sotradecol. Bulging veins are significantly reduced, giving a youthful, healthy appearance.
Q. How many treatments will I need to see permanent results?
A. Final results will be seen in 6 to 12 weeks of the initial treatment. Each vein may need 2 or 3 treatments. Only one vein is treated at a time because all veins may not need to be treated after all. Once treated, other veins become less apparent due to reduced pressure. We offer free consultations where we can explain your specific treatment.
Q. Are there any side effects?
A. Compression, using an ace bandage for 24 to 48 hours is suggested to reduce natural bruising which will subside in your normal time frame. Guylaine Lanctôt's experienced, trained and competent team of doctors, physician assistants and nurses will be available at all times to discuss any concern you may have. |
