Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Ambulatory phlebectomy is a procedure used with endovenous laser treatment to treat ambulatory varicose veins. Large, bulging, and painful veins that branch off from the saphenous vein or varicosities are removed with a delicate technique of micro incisions in the leg. The vein is hooked and removed in small segments. This procedure is also administered under local anesthesia and the micro incisions do not require stitches, therefore marks of incision are imperceptible.

Q. Is Ambulatory Phlebectomy for me?

A. Ambulatory Phlebectomy selection is based on the type of varicose vein disease presented in the patient. The best treatment for your varicose veins is easily determined with a simple test, Ultrasound Venous Mapping.

Q. Are there any complications to this procedure?

A. Compared to traditional vein stripping, this technique has virtually no scarring or side effects. Also, because it is an in-office, minimally invasive procedure performed under local anesthesia, patients experience very little discomfort and bruising. Skin pigmentation at the site of the varicose vein can occur and is usually temporary.

Q. What is the recovery period after Ambulatory Phlebectomy?

A. There is virtually no downtime. Patients are advised to rest for the first day but you will be back to your normal activities the following day. Also, a compression stocking must be worn for a short period.

Q. What are the benefits of Ambulatory Phlebectomy?

A. Long-term results after phlebectomy are excellent when the procedure is performed for the appropriate indications. The procedure is also well tolerated by patients and produces good cosmetic results.
